This video gives a brief overview of what you will learn in Calculus 101 through the Cade Moore Polytechnic Institute (CM-Tech) and introduces learners to some of our core philosophies when it comes to learning.
In short, we don't believe in grades. We don't even do Pass / Fail. We call it Pass / Not Yet. However, we do believe in recognizing and rewarding excellence so there is an option to Pass many classes "With Honors". It's like the academic equivalent of bragging rights.
In Calculus 101 we don't strive to teach our learners Calculus. We want to help guide them into discovering it for themselves.
This course uses two textbooks. The "Big Book" is Calculus Volume 1 by OpenStax. It is available online for free in both English and Spanish. We make what we call "Textbooklets" also described as the "Little Book". The little book gives you a trail of breadcrumbs and leading questions and tells you where to look in the big book if you want additional information.
While the Textbooklet was designed with the OpenStax Volume 1 textbook in mind, pretty much any calculus textbook will work. You'll just have to look for the concepts by name, not chapter number.
This comical video gives an introduction to part of the cast of characters that we'll be learning from.
